Course

CLIL for Secondary Teachers is designed to help secondary students who face the challenge of teaching their subject in a language that is not their students’ mother tongue. It will show how to use CLIL methodology effectively in any secondary school subject area. There is a focus on practical activities which show how to blend contentdriven lessons with language learning in the secondary school classroom. The expected outcomes include increased confidence in applying CLIL strategies, practical insights gained from workshops and collaborative learning with peers, and exposure to new cultural contexts. Additionally, the cultural program offers participants opportunities to explore the cultural heritage of Ireland and the local area, including guided tours and social activities. The main objectives are:

  • To equip teachers with the principles of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) and address the challenges of implementing it in their teaching context.
  • To emphasise the integration of subject and language learning, offering guidance on material selection and practical classroom activities.
  • To boost teachers’ confidence in applying CLIL while fostering English proficiency and sharing experiences.
  • Activities include interactive teaching, workshops for creating teaching materials, reflective feedback sessions, and access to online resources.
  • Cultural and heritage trips provide a unique opportunity for enriching cultural experiences and networking.
